This role exists due to continued workload and the need for in-house Swiss programming expertise. Camtool is expanding its Swiss lathe capabilities and is looking for a machinist who can program, set up, and own the process from print to finished part.
You’ll play a key role in producing precision Swiss-turned components while helping improve processes, reduce costs, and support long-term manufacturing growth.
The Work You’ll Be DoingIn this role, you will:
- Program, set up, and run Swiss CNC lathes based on customer drawings
- Develop setup sheets, tooling lists, and manage tool life
- Generate and edit CNC programs to improve cycle time, chip control, and tool usage
- Analyze job travelers to determine operation sequence, tooling, feeds, and speeds
- Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measuring tools
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams on DFM improvements
- Design or assist with jigs, fixtures, and work holding using 3D models
- Troubleshoot machining and quality issues
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities and implement process improvements
- Accurately document work orders, inspection records, and maintenance logs
This is a hands-on programming + setup role
, not just pushing cycle start.
You’ll work with:
Machines:
- Swiss CNC Lathes (Nomura preferred)
CAM Software:
- Part Maker
Inspection Tools:
- Micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment
- 3+ years of CNC programming experience
- 1+ year of CNC turning experience
- Strong blueprint reading skills
- Solid understanding of setups, tooling, and offsets
- Ability to inspect parts and hold tight tolerances
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Swiss CNC lathe experience (3+ years strongly preferred)
- Experience with Nomura Swiss machines
- Process development or quoting experience
- Fixture or work holding design experience
- Common production metals and raw materials used in Swiss machining (Exact materials vary by job)
- Programming and setup authority — your skills are respected
