Electrical Assembler

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is seeking an Electrical Assembler to join their manufacturing facility in Muncie, Indiana. This role involves utilizing mechanical and electrical expertise to install various components, cables, and wiring into electrical compartments. You will be responsible for performing wiring, cabling, mechanical assembly, and installation tasks by strictly adhering to blueprints, schematics, and engineering change notices.

This is a full-time, second-shift position operating Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, which includes mandatory weekly overtime. The starting compensation is $20.00 per hour, reflecting a base rate of $19.00 plus a $1.00 shift differential. Weekly pay is provided.

• Mount large components and sub-assemblies securely into electrical compartments.
• Organize and route loose wiring and cabling to ensure they connect to the correct components.
• Manage the routing and termination of cables throughout the electrical system.
• Help resolve any quality non-conformance issues identified by the inspection team.
• Strictly follow established process guidelines and quality gate documentation.
• Verify that all gauges remain properly calibrated.
• Ensure all fasteners meet engineering torque specifications to maintain structural integrity.
• Keep the workspace tidy and well-organized to improve overall team efficiency.
• Perform advanced assembly tasks as required.
• Install wire harnesses and individual wires into panels, ensuring proper termination at each component.
• Assemble plugs and terminate wiring according to specific plug charts.
• Create wire harnesses by applying cables and wires to process drawings.
• Provide mentorship and training to other team members.

• At least one year of manufacturing background, with a preference for heavy industrial settings.
• Demonstrated proficiency in reading a tape measure.
• Practical experience utilizing various hand tools.
• Background working with blueprints and wiring schematics is preferred.
• A willingness to learn and adopt new skills.
• Prior experience operating forklifts or cranes is considered a plus.
• Basic computer literacy for accurate data entry.
• Familiarity with industrial manufacturing environments, including the use of heavy machinery, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.

• Ability to interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and wire lists to ensure project accuracy.
• Physical capability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs, and push or pull up to 75 lbs.
• Constant physical movement including walking, bending, crouching, and reaching to maintain production flow.
• Capacity to comprehend written and verbal instructions and remain alert to audible safety alarms.
• Ability to work in diverse environments, including varied surfaces, heights, and non-climate-controlled spaces with exposure to dust and noise.
• Comfort working independently within a demanding industrial setting.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe environment by following all health protocols and utilizing required PPE while working near moving rail equipment.
