Job Title:
Night Shift Supervisor (RN/LPN) Shift: 6p-2a M-F Position Summary
The Night Shift Unit Manager Nurse is responsible for overseeing the delivery of resident care during overnight hours in a long-term care facility. This role ensures high-quality, safe, and compliant care while supervising nursing staff, coordinating clinical activities, and responding to resident needs and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Oversight- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and facility policies
- Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during critical situations
- Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit
- Assign duties and ensure adequate staffing levels
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS guidelines)
- Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures
- Participate in audits, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities
- Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Provide detailed shift reports and ensure continuity of care between shifts
- Notify appropriate parties of significant changes in resident condition
- Maintain staffing schedules and report staffing concerns
- Review incident reports and follow up as needed
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly
- Current, active RN or LPN license in the state of practice (e.g., Indiana)
- Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Night shift hours, including weekends and holidays as required
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance)
- Exposure to healthcare environment conditions, including infectious diseases
