About this opportunity

The Indiana Academy is a residential school for academically gifted high‑ability students in grades 10‑12. The School Nurse works closely with the Nurse Manager and supports the health and wellness of over 200 residential students, as well as a smaller group of international and commuter students. The role serves as a trusted advocate, educator, and champion of student health.

Responsibilities

Identify and prioritize student health needs, provide routine and emergency health care within the scope of nursing practice, and respond to medical and mental health emergencies.

Transport residential students to medical appointments, advocating on behalf of students and parents as needed.

Maintain professional nursing records utilizing appropriate technology in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Administer medication, maintain records, ensure compliance, and train unlicensed assistive personnel in medication administration per Indiana Academy Medication Policy.

Collaborate professionally with all team members, maintaining open communication with parents and students to achieve optimal outcomes.

Respond to calls after work hours as required.

Conduct rounds, providing care, meals, and medication when needed, and assist students at various campus sites.

Promote health strategies, stay informed about local, state, and federal school health laws, and coordinate quarterly blood drives.

Complete required professional development and annual health trainings as per school, state, or district policies.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in nursing.
Current Indiana nursing license.
Valid Indiana driver’s license and insurability under the university’s auto fleet policy.
Proficiency in basic computer operations, including email, word processing, and internet use.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience applying the nursing process within scope of licensure across diverse care settings.
Current Indiana RN license.
CPR/first aid/AED certification.
