Job Purpose

This position focuses on training employees on safety processes and initiatives. Responsible for maintaining compliance with state, federal and local EHS regulations, including writing programs, record keeping, reports, inspections, audits, permits, monitoring, testing, training and medical surveillance per guidelines. Provides administrative support and coordination of health and safety efforts for the facility.

Key Job Elements
  • Conduct safety training with employees of the facility.
  • Inspect and evaluate environment, equipment and processes to ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct New Hire Orientation; deliver safety and health training programs and maintain and distribute PPE to employees when applicable; engage employees to work safely; stop and correct any unsafe behavior or conditions found.
  • Enter data into Safety systems; conduct audits to identify unsafe conditions, non‑compliance and hazardous conditions; track, log and follow up on safety observations.
  • Conduct incident, accident reporting and investigations and/or assist with development of root‑cause corrections in partnership with the EHS Manager.
  • Handle regulatory inspections and visits (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and complete reports for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Perform monitoring and testing for permit requirements.
  • Assist in sampling of different media, collecting water level data, storm water sampling during precipitation events; collect, label, package and ship samples to off‑site lab.
  • Handle facility alarm and sprinkler systems and other emergency response systems as applicable.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements for assigned programs.
  • Administer first aid for minor injuries as needed and refer more serious injuries for medical care; inform the company of any injuries that occur at the facility.
  • Maintain data in EHS management systems PRESS.
  • Collaborate with Facility Management as needed and complete other job‑related duties as assigned by EHS Manager, Plant Manager, HR Manager or Regional EHS Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education / Training
  • BS Degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or related field, or equivalent experience with designated responsibilities in the safety/environmental field.
  • OSHA training of 30 hours or more preferred.
Qualifications And Experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of environmental practices and federal/state safety rules and regulations.
  • Possess or be able to obtain certification in General Industry 30‑hour class.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels, including company management, staff, contractors, vendors and site personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience with Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and priority as circumstances dictate.
  • Must be able to meet requirements of pre‑employment, post‑offer drug test and fitness for duty medical review and exam.
  • Must be able to pass a background check covering any and all felonies and misdemeanors in the past 7 years.
  • Experience with SAFE START or similar safety program preferred.
