Job Summary
Assist in performing work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities.
ResponsibilitiesAssist with the assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de‑energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under direct or immediate supervision.
Perform ground person duties under immediate or direct supervision as skill level dictates.
Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing and removing poles, towers and structures.
After completion of D‑100 or equivalent, demonstrate the ability to operate company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lift vehicles), climb poles, ladders and work on de‑energized conductors and equipment; may work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260volts under direct supervision.
After completion of D‑200 or equivalent, operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; may work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260volts under higher supervision.
As skill level allows, operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers and other sectionalizing devices.
After D‑300, test de‑energized overhead lines, install and remove protective grounds and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Inspect and maintain tools, equipment and work area in a safe, clean and orderly fashion; maintain accurate records, submit reports, and perform housekeeping duties.
Safely execute pole‑top rescue and bucket truck rescue processes once trained.
Protect or control work area by setting and removing barricades, flags, signs, cones and related equipment.
Maintain and record meter readings.
Complete Monthly Apprentice Cards and submit to local supervision for review.
Perform similar or less‑skilled work as assigned.
Supervision Levels- Direct supervision – a qualified person works hand‑on with the trainee.
- Immediate supervision – a qualified person maintains constant visual or verbal contact.
- General supervision – a higher‑classification employee oversees the task without necessarily being on site.
- Qualified person – a line mechanic or supervisor skilled in the task.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- No prior experience required; line work experience or line school education preferred.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and acquire a CDL beginner permit within 60days.
- Must obtain a valid commercial driver’s license before the end of the probationary period.
- Must meet vehicle operation requirements set by federal and state law.
- Must pass a physical‑abilities assessment and the Hire Vue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout (recommended).
Note: assessment is untimed, ~45minutes. - Must demonstrate ability to perform duties of the role and acquire qualifications for the next higher classification within the designated timeframe.
- Must maintain a positive, courteous approach when dealing with employees, customers and the general public.
- Considerable travel and overtime may be required.

- Hourly rate: $27.21 – $28.61
- Compensation Grade: U021‑180
- Compensation Range: $27.21 – $27.91
- Physical Demand Level: H – Heavy Work (exerting 50‑100pounds occasionally, etc.)
