Job Description
Grid Hawk LLC, The Premier Provider for Utility Services, is seeking a Utility Watch and Protect Technician. The role involves overseeing contractors digging on and around gas facilities, monitoring excavations, and ensuring the safety of contractors and the public. The technician also performs field audits to verify compliance with safe and accurate utility practices.
Qualifications- One year of underground utility locating experience.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Background check with no violations within the last 5 years.
- DOT drug test required and passed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with citizens, contractors, and customers.
- Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of safe worksite practices.
- Experience with construction and installation of below-grade infrastructure.
- Familiarity with existing utility standard designs and complex urban underground infrastructure.
- Experience serving as firm/client liaison and reviewing design drawings created by others.
- Proficiency with industry-standard locating equipment and basic maintenance.
- Basic communication and tech device usage skills.
- Compare real‑world conditions to record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
- Verify location of all client facilities within specified dig extents.
- Watch and protect client facilities within a given area as directed by the client.
- Understand contractor’s methods for subsurface installations.
- Monitor and provide surveillance of critical infrastructure during known or upcoming excavations.
- Contact excavators and schedule monitoring with them.
- Locate and mark underground facilities using industry tools, standards, and methods.
- Perform ticket audits to ensure locators accurately identify facilities and follow marking procedures.
- Move around construction sites, public streets, and parkways.
- Lift up to 50–75 lbs.
- Stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods.
- Operate computers and instruments requiring hand‑eye coordination.
- Work safely outdoors in all weather conditions year‑round.
- Occasional work in excavations and roadways.
- Exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
- Noise level occasionally moderate to loud.
- Hourly pay $20.00 – $24.00, varies with experience.
