That’s a day in the life with Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, where Impact Workforce Solutions is partnering to add a dedicated Welder to the manufacturing team in Muncie, Indiana.
Compensation & Schedule Pay: $22+ per hour (commensurate with experience and shift)
Shifts:
1st (Mon–Fri, 6:00am–2:30pm), 2nd (Mon–Fri, 2:30pm–11:00pm), 3rd (Sun–Thurs, 9:30pm–6:00am)
Hours:
40–56 per week; 5–6 days per week; overtime may be required

What You’ll DoYou’ll fabricate and join work pieces using hand-welding and flame-cutting processes, primarily MIG with some Stick, delivering safe, high-quality results.
Achieve and maintain internal welding certification in accordance with ISO, AAR, and other regulatory standards
Gather materials and weld to specification
Set up components, including cutting materials to precise measurements with powered saws
Prep parts for welding using angle grinders and other hand tools
Interpret welding blueprints, assembly instructions, drawings, and bills of material
Maintain welding proficiency and comply with Progress Rail QSP 4.9 and applicable local/international standards
Use tape measures, scales, and calipers to take and record inspection data Operate pneumatic/electric tools and overhead cranes to move components
Advance Your Craft Master pipe welding plus GMAW and SMAW in all positions
Obtain certifications such as AWS D1.1
Perform single- and multi-pass welds in varied positions
Conduct preventative and basic maintenance on welding machines/equipment
Mentor less experienced welders
Forklift certification preferred
Opportunity for training on advanced systems, including Robot Welders Qualifications & Preferred Skills Technical certifications may substitute for experience
Preferred: GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW certifications
Certified Welder with broad process knowledge: approximately 90% MIG, 10% Stick, plus TIG and Flux Core Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability
Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 lbs. and work in tight/confined spaces
Perform climbing, reaching, kneeling, and similar activities
Visual and auditory acuity to operate welding tools safely with proper PPEWork in varied environments, including temperature extremes and inclement weather
Safety Commitment Safety-sensitive role; unwavering adherence to safety policies, PPE use, and regulations around heavy equipment and live tracks
