Service Technician

Location: Buffalo, NY;
Elmhurst, IL;

Buffalo, NY. Technicians residing outside of the listed locations (Toledo, OH; Erie, PA; Ithica, NY; South Bend, IN) may also be considered. The position is not eligible for relocation.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Full‑time, hourly position.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Job Overview

The Field Service Technician for Ingersoll Rand’s Compression Systems and Services Division installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains all makes of rotary screw, reciprocating, Centac, and ECC air compressors, as well as other compressed‑air system components. Precision measuring tools are used for diagnostic troubleshooting, and knowledge of operating and parts manuals for all equipment is required.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers and co‑workers.
  • Provide technical assistance during equipment pre‑commissioning, start‑ups, installations, and repairs of compressed‑air systems, performing hands‑on work to ensure customer requirements are met with limited guidance.
  • Increase customer awareness of Ingersoll Rand products, services, and solutions such as Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection that can benefit their operations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on compressed‑air equipment and address existing and unanticipated equipment concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Service Coordinator to order and gather parts and supplies necessary for installations and repairs.
  • Assist and train apprentices and other Field Service Technicians.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with no major traffic violations (including no DUI in the last 5 years, no hit‑and‑run, no license suspension, no reckless/careless driving, and no multiple minor infractions or preventable collisions in the last 3 years).
  • On‑call requirement after the first 90 days; availability 24/7 for 1‑week periods. On‑call cycles may occur every 4 weeks or more frequently at the discretion of the hiring manager.
  • Highly physical work that includes frequent use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling; lifting and moving weights in accordance with the safety policy.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Core Competencies
  • Read wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
  • Advanced network systems installations (IMMC/ASC, X Series Automation).
  • Basic vibration troubleshooting.
  • Basic air‑quality knowledge (compressor/dryer, air treatment).
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer usage; proficiency with handheld devices such as smartphones and iPads, along with network basics.
  • Maintain proper business‑travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.
Preferences
  • Industrial air compressor maintenance and knowledge.
  • EPA certification.
  • Veterans and Active‑Duty military encouraged to apply.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
  • Daily travel within a 3‑hour radius of the service area.
  • Company vehicle and fuel card provided.
Pay Range

Starting pay: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Full‑time, hourly position.
