The School Security position works to maintain a safe environment on campus with possible shifts before, during, and after the school day. This individual works with a team (one additional School Security officer) to monitor students and maintain a safe environment for all. This position is part-time, with flexible shifts during the school week, up to 22 hours per week. $21 per hour.

• 3-5 years related experience
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and able to handle employee, student, and other sensitive information confidentially
• Ability to confront student behavior and redirect it in a positive and clear manner
• Interpersonal skills to establish conversation and professional relationships with students
• Exhibits a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community
• Must be able to work with a diverse population of people including students, parents, employees and the general public
• Skilled in conflict resolution

• Responsible for monitoring students in all areas of the building
• Supports the mission of the school
• Facilitates the closing of the Information Commons
• Responsible for clearing unscheduled students from the academic hallways
• Supervises students in the student lounge, as needed
• Maintains a safe environment for students
• Corrects student behavior as needed
• Confronts unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits
• Communicates with the Deans and Principal regarding issues; including providing regular reports
• Monitors students throughout various areas as indicated by calendared events
• Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings and grounds to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school policies
• Supervises and directs student movement
• Notifies the administration, police, fire departments, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations

• The School Security position is a part-time position that entails shifts at varying times
• Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses
• Exposure to heated / air-conditioned and ventilated facilities
• Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and / or operation of equipment
• Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times

• The employee must be able to impart and receive detailed information through verbal and written communication.
• The employee must have the ability to work in situations dealing with people and working with set limits, tolerances, and standards.

The employee must have the ability to stand and / or walk for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; articulate information in an emergency situation;

and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.
