Special Education Paraprofessional
Fremont School District 79 is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for the school year. The special education paraprofessional will provide assistance to the special education teacher through direct support of student educational, social, physical, and emotional needs, either within the special education class or the regular education classroom.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Assisting the teacher in working with special education students to reinforce instructional material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Supervising students in the playground, lunchroom, buses and other non-instructional areas as required and requested by the classroom teacher, principal and assistant principal.
- Participating in collaborative planning for instruction with the teacher.
- Assisting the teacher in preparing the classroom for school, storing materials and getting the classroom ready for the closing of school.
- Coordinating and maintaining individual help and assistance to an individual special education student.
- Accompanying special education students to special area classes or to and from buses as needed.
- Attending school district and team meetings, when necessary or appropriate.
- Supporting students during independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up by the classroom teacher.
- Performing clerical, administrative and safety tasks for the teacher, including making copies, preparing bulletin boards, filing, cleaning equipment and toys, setting up audio-visual equipment, etc.
- Maintaining or modifying a student's curriculum to the needs of the student as required and directed by the teacher.
- Assisting special education students in any testing and observing and recording student progress as needed.
- Keeping the classroom neat and orderly.
- Assisting with preparing and maintaining student records when requested.
- Performing other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the building principal, assistant principal and teacher.
