Major, Lindsey & Africa has an immediate need for an Interim Bi-Lingual (Spanish) Paralegal

Overview:
Our client is looking for an Interim Bi-Lingual (Spanish) Paralegal

Company: NYC-Based Immigration Advocacy Not-For-Profit.

Experience: 2-4 years, relevant experience described below.

Location: 1 day in office in NYC and available as needed for additional in-person interpretation at USCIS offices in Bethpage, NY, Queens, Manhattan, and Newark. NJ.

The Temporary Paralegal will be joining a team of exceptional paralegals who work collaboratively to assist attorneys in an immigration legal practice. The Temporary Paralegal will provide interpretation at client meetings and agency interviews, communicate with clients, and support attorneys with clerical and administrative tasks, all while learning more about immigration law and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys and paralegals with immigration cases and applications;
  • Provide Spanish-English interpretation at client meetings and agency interviews;
  • Translate documents between Spanish and English;
  • Maintain organized and complete electronic and physical case files and documentation.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the organization.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required;
    Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Prior paralegal experience is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with written and verbal fluency.
  • Excellent written, analytical, oral, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team in a
  • fast-paced, high-intensity environment.
  • An understanding of how to work with vulnerable populations using trauma-centered practices or willingness to learn and incorporate such practices in your work.
  • A demonstrated ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures, as well as sensitivity to and knowledge of the various dimensions of diversity, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, disability, and socioeconomic status.
  • A commitment to the work of Safe Passage Project and readiness to grow and learn with the Safe Passage Project team.
