Description

The Village of Mundelein is seeking an Illinois Licensed professional to fill the position of Police Social Worker. The Police Social Worker is a full-time civilian position and serves as a liaison between law enforcement, residents, and social service agencies. Under the direction of the Director of Support Services, the Social Worker provides crisis intervention, short-term counseling, victim advocacy, community outreach and education, and related social services in support of the Police Department and the Village of Mundelein.

  • Provide victim advocacy, crisis intervention, and short-term counseling services to individuals and families.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide professional consultation consistent with licensure.
  • Assess and support cases involving domestic violence, substance abuse, grief, aging, juvenile delinquency, and mental health concerns.
  • Make referrals to appropriate community resources and follow up on referrals from police officers, schools, hospitals, DCFS, and other agencies.
  • Collaborate with police officers, detectives, schools, hospitals, DCFS, mental health facilities, and other community partners to coordinate care and services.
  • Serve as a consultant to police personnel regarding case management and interactions with individuals in crisis.
  • Provide emergency social service assistance to officers in the field, respond to calls for service, and assist with death notifications as assigned or needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, professional ethical standards, and departmental policies.
  • Deliver community outreach, public education programs, and citizen meetings related to social services, including parenting, youth, and teen-focused programs.
  • Facilitate and provide social service-related training for Police Department personnel.
  • Serve as a court advocate for victims of crime and prepare court-related reports, including custody evaluations or parental fitness reports, when ordered by the court and within the scope of licensure.
  • Assist in coordinating the Community Emergency Fund.
  • Provide after-hours emergency social service assistance as assigned or scheduled.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and policies related to social services.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written, is preferred.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations effectively while exercising sound judgement and discretion.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and information in accordance with applicable law and policies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of individuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Police Department personnel and with social service agencies and professionals within and outside the community.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Current State of Illinois licensure in social work or counseling, appropriate to the scope of assigned duties.
  • Training and professional experience in crisis intervention, diagnostic assessment consistent with licensure and professional standards, and treatment.
  • Clinical experience addressing domestic violence, substance abuse, grief, aging, juvenile delinquency, and mental health concerns.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License due to frequent travel to court, crisis response sites, and other off-site duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in an office environment and may involve prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. The position may occasionally require attendance at meetings, court proceedings, training sessions, or community functions at off-site locations.
