Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects by gathering proposals from subcontractors and material suppliers, and reviewing blueprints, specifications, and related documents. This role is critical to ensuring competitive, profitable bids and supporting project success from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive, accurate cost estimates and project bids.
- Develop detailed quantity take-offs, cost breakdowns, and pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Prepare bid proposals and participate in pre-bid meetings, presentations, and negotiations.
- Maintain current knowledge of construction materials, methods, and market conditions to ensure estimates reflect realistic costs.
- Track and analyze historical cost data for future estimating efficiency and accuracy.
- Support value engineering efforts and recommend cost-effective alternatives where applicable.
- Review bid documents and ensure all required forms and documents are complete and submitted in accordance with the specifications prior to the submittal deadline.
- Upon award of projects, collaborate with project managers and review subcontractors’ and suppliers’ bids to ensure complete scope coverage for the entire project.
- Identify pre-construction costs to be included in bids, i.e. building permit fees, utility fees, etc.
- Actively seek future opportunities by contacting owners, developers, and/or designers of projects identified in online plan rooms or in planning phases.
- Proven experience as an Estimator in the commercial construction industry (5+ years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
