Summary

The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is seeking a full-time Physician (Urologist) to join our Nashville-based group in providing comprehensive urologic care for patients. We are a large, vibrant academic VA practice, many of us associated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center. We provide routine and complex clinical & surgical care for a growing veteran population extending from Kentucky to Alabama.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic standards.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
  • Education:

    Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • License:
    Full, unrestricted license to practice in the U.S.
  • Residency Training:
    Completion of VA-approved residency in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • English Proficiency:
    Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board certification is preferred but not required. Candidates with backgrounds in Endourology, Reconstruction, Men's Health, or General Urology are ideal. Academic experience and office-based practice are also valued.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform duties of an urologic surgeon, including heavy lifting, walking, standing, and visual and auditory acuity.

Duties

  • This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, with initial referral cut-off on June 5, 2025, and bi-weekly subsequent cut-offs.

  • Responsibilities include supervising residents, staffing urology clinics, performing surgical procedures, managing medical records, providing inpatient and outpatient care, and participating in committees and education.
  • Supervision is provided by the Urology Section Chief; this position has no direct reports.
  • Customer service, age-specific care, and data security are emphasized as core responsibilities.
