Job Summary /Basic Function

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full‑time temporary (non‑tenurable) faculty position (#129150) at the rank of lecturer. This is a one‑year appointment that may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment starts August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will be a cultural anthropologist with four‑field training and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. The teaching load will be 5/5, including multiple on‑ground and online sections of the undergraduate cultural anthropology general‑education course and additional new or existing courses in their area of expertise. A willingness to work with a diverse student body that includes many first‑generation college students is expected.

Required

Education

A master’s in anthropology is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables
  • Area of expertise that will complement, rather than duplicate, existing faculty strengths (e.g., geographic, methodological, or theoretical).
  • A PhD in anthropology.
  • Expertise in cultural anthropology.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate anthropology courses.
