Youth Development
Emerald Youth Foundation is located in Knoxville, TN and aims to reconnect urban young people to home, school, church, and their communities, creating effective leaders who will transform Knoxville from the inside out. This "reconnection" is done through three ministries developed by Emerald Youth – Just Lead, Emerald Youth Sports and Calling and Career. Just Lead is an urban, church-based youth leadership development program.
Emerald Youth Sports is a program providing fun and wellness, skills and competitive athletics. Calling and Career is a high school to young adult transition program. Through Emerald Youth's ministries, urban young people are provided fun and meaningful relational growth experiences through the following outcomes areas: faith, learning, and health. Ameri Corps volunteers with Emerald Youth serve primarily in Just Lead with a focus on learning.
Since Ameri Corps is a federally funded program, volunteers are not allowed to accrue hours for any faith/spiritual/religious activities. Any Ameri Corps volunteers who would like to participate in these activities, would have to do so independent of their Ameri Corps time - completely separate from their Ameri Corps service hours.
The majority of Emerald Youth’s Ameri Corps volunteers serve part-time during the school year with elementary and/or middle school age young people in a structured after school program either for the entire school year or for only a semester. The rest of Emerald Youth's Ameri Corps opportunities are available for the summer implementing the same structured activities but during the day rather than only in the afternoons.
There are currently three kinds of Ameri Corps positions available with Emerald Youth school year:
- Children's and/or Youth Role (with elementary and/or middle school age students)
