Position: Personal Banker Associate I - Murfreesboro, TN

GENERAL FUNCTION

Selected candidates are intended to become a Retail Personal Banker I after completing a 4-8 week on‑boarding and education program that includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service. A certification at the conclusion of the program will demonstrate the skills required to perform successfully within the Retail Personal Banker job family. The role focuses on using the consultative sales process to proactively identify and meet the financial needs of customers or prospects, acquiring new households and deepening existing relationships through activities such as lobby leadership, aisle time, and tele‑consulting.

It also involves processing teller transactions and working as a member of the platform staff.

Candidates must act responsibly for risk, openly exchange ideas, follow policies and procedures, and consistently identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report risks while delivering a positive customer experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Use the consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build comprehensive customer profiles and identify current and future financial needs.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of retail consumer and small business products/services and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Utilize CAMP and approved marketing tools to proactively reach out to customers and set appointments for periodic financial reviews.
  • Focus on cross‑selling to the existing customer base and engage in external sales activities, such as membership advantage presentations, business sales calls, and community financial literacy events.
  • Establish close working relationships with assigned business partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial, and Investment) and refer customers when appropriate to provide timely, holistic solutions.
  • Consistently meet or exceed customer experience and individual/team production goals, enhancing year‑over‑year revenue growth as measured by the Financial Center P&L.
  • Provide guidance to CSRs regarding the sales and referral process.
  • Promote customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism.
  • Act with confidence by answering customer questions and owning customer issues.
  • Maintain a position of trust and responsibility by keeping all business confidential.
  • Follow the Bancorp Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and related policies, maintaining ethical behavior at all times.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures while opening/servicing the full range of retail products.
  • Participate in consumer loan and bankcard processes, owning sourced loans from application through closing.
  • Participate in the opening and closing of the Financial Center or Bank Mart as directed by the manager.
  • Stay up to date with retail procedures designed to mitigate fraudulent activity and unnecessary risk or exposure.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED
  • College degree or equivalent work experience providing transferable skills.
  • Experience in the financial industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated comfort with sales activities aimed at acquiring new consumers and cross‑selling to established customers.
  • Ability to analyze credit and financial information using advanced math functions.
  • Professional appearance and verbal/written communication suitable for representing Fifth Third Bank.
  • Working knowledge of retail policies and procedures to exercise sound judgment.
  • Position requires S.A.F.E. Act registration through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS website provides the MU4R questions and registration required for employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Normal office environment.
  • Prolonged periods of computer screen use.
  • Travel within the affiliate for training and scheduling flexibility.
  • Outside‑affiliate travel for classroom training sessions.

The base salary for this role reflects the salary range for the pay grade and will vary based on role, skill set, experience, education, and location.
