Overview
The purpose of this position is to manage the operations of inspections, permit issuance, and licensing within the City.
Essential Functions- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Identifies correct address for projects, verifies and obtains approvals, prepares and issues building permits and sub-permits in accordance with applicable laws and codes to licensed contractors, small business owners and homeowners.
- Explains contractor's license and insurance requirements in accordance with the law.
- Reviews, and approves gas and electrical license applications according to City ordinances; maintain files; assists in the annual renewal of licenses.
- Issues all types of permits for construction, verifies all licensing requirements and conditions for permit; applies State law and City ordinances to determine permit approval; calculates and accounts for fees and deposits.
- Completes certificate of occupancy process; verifies all requirements and conditions of permit and prepares documents for department leadership approval; notifies permit holder of approval and release approval information to utilities.
- Answers busy multi line phone, takes inspection requests, and provides general customer service.
- Handles property maintenance complaints; dispatches inspectors to properties, composes property research issue letters; handles liens on properties; issues work orders and statement of costs for property maintenance; confers with legal on ownership of properties.
- Assists Inspectors with permit process and inspections results, including inspection software issues.
- Tracks projects and schedules inspections based on data received; updates public and other City departments as to progress of projects.
- Conducts research for public and other City Departments on present and historical permits, building plans and code enforcement data.
- Calculates permit fees and daily cash transactions; balances receipts and tracking department revenues.
- Validates the permit amounts charged comply with contract provisions and laws; creates and pays invoices; refunds fees when applicable.
- Performs other work as assigned.
- Performs work that involves walking or standing some of the time and sustained keyboard operations
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have two (2) years of administrative support or closely related.
