Speech Therapist- PRN

Position: Speech Therapist- PRN Days
PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Assess, diagnose, treat and help to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Evaluate patients' levels of speech, language or swallowing difficulty and identify treatment options.

* Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan that addresses patient specific functional needs.

* Teach children and adults how to make sounds and improve their voice and maintain fluency.

* Help individuals improve vocabulary and sentence structure used in oral and written language.

* Work with children and adults to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow.

* Counsel individuals and families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorder.

* Administer hearing or speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments.

* Educate patients and family members about various topics, such as communication techniques or strategies to cope with or to avoid personal misunderstandings.

* Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

* Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

* Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Language Pathology or similar, as required by the state and acceptable for licensure required.

* One or more years' experience working with population of the facility preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/

CERTIFICATIONS:

* Current active professional license or eligible for endorsement by the state in which the facility provides services.

* CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

* First aid may be required based on state or facility.
