INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE - LAWSON MCGHEE LIBRARY
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to install, configure and maintain PCs, servers, switches, Wi-Fi access points and controllers, and related peripheral devices and software for the Knox County Public Library System.
Essential Functions
- Install, configure, and maintain desktop and notebook PCs
- Install, configure, and maintain printers, coin boxes, scanners and other IT hardware and peripheral equipment
- Install, configure and maintain Windows and Linux servers in both physical and virtual environments
- Install, configure and maintain switches, Wi-Fi access points and controllers, and other networking equipment
- Install, configure, and maintain the software and services necessary to provide public access computing
- Provide support to Library staff
- Research, test, evaluate and document issues to develop procedures that minimize system and network problems
- Communicate and troubleshoot problems with data communication providers
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
Additional Job Functions
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local regional or central office supervisors as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field, minimum of three years’ experience with Computer/Network Administration, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCS) designation, familiarity with wide area networks;
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position.
Specialized Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Windows Server Operating System with Windows Active Directory
- Knowledge of networking protocols including OSPF, RIP, TCP/IP, SNMP, DHCP and DNS
- Ability to work in a position of moderate complexity.
- Ability to work successfully with internal and external customers in a large organization
- Must possess strong communication skills and be able to communicate technical information to non-technical library staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software programs
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
- Ability to focus and demonstrate attention to detail
Physical Requirements
- Physical demands are heavy. Ability to frequently lift 50lbs, occasionally 100lbs.
