Responsibilities- Take ownership of your area’s performance including safety, quality, and productivity, holding team members accountable to standards and presenting weekly area performance to management.
- Use data to identify trends and predict maintenance needs before they happen.
- Identify areas for improvement and lead improvement events to:
- Increase productivity by implementing improved goals, guidelines, and procedures.
- Minimize unsafe conditions and accidents.
- Minimize customer rejections and delays.
- Perform line setup and quality validations.
- Lead and/or participate in 8D and 5 Why meetings.
- Identify productivity projects to improve uptime and throughput per man‑hour worked.
- Hold operator meetings to establish plans for continuous improvement.
- Focus on employee involvement and building a better working environment overall.
- Assist in training of new operators in all aspects of operation such as safety, quality and productivity.
- Monitor attendance, vacation, and sick time, taking disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements of the equipment (J.S.A.) and O.S.H.A standards.
- Collaborate with the Scheduling department to organize production schedules for efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance department to schedule repairs.
- Maintain monthly and daily reports.
- Identify capital improvement projects.
- Aid in rolling out 5S and sustaining gains in the building.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions.
- Mill experience preferred.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred; formal education may be substituted with 3‑5 years of experience and training.
Experience in Lean Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma problem solving is desired.
Working ConditionsThis is a safety‑sensitive position performed in both office and manufacturing settings. The expectation is that 75% of the time is spent on the plant floor.
Office work includes minimal to moderate noise from computers, printers, and people.
Manufacturing work includes moderate to high noise from machinery and equipment.
Facility temperature varies and personal protective equipment may be required.
