Harpeth Conservancy seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, self-starter to assist communications and outreach efforts. This seasonal, unpaid internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications responsibilities while working for a well-known community based nonprofit organization.
About Harpeth ConservancyFounded in 1999, the Harpeth Conservancy mission is to restore and protect clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee by employing scientific expertise and collaborative relationships to develop, promote and support broad community stewardship and action.
Responsibilities- Create content for Harpeth Conservancy’s social media presence, including creating Instagram/Facebook updates and events
- Assist in planning and writing content for Harpeth Conservancy’s website and other online platforms
- Work with staff to distill technical information in an easy-to-understand way to the public
- Collect and organize information for regularly scheduled emails (eBlasts)
- Assist the Communications Manager with communications strategies and tasks related to major campaigns
- Prepare outreach materials for community engagement events for volunteers and/or other staff members
- Represent Harpeth Conservancy at community events/outreach opportunities
- Excellent communication (written, oral, interpersonal) and organization skills.
- Knowledge of computers
- Experience with Microsoft Word Suite, Canva, and other design software
- Understanding of various social media platforms
- Willing to work indoors and outdoors, able to lift 25+ lbs
- Available weekends, as scheduled ahead of time
- Reliable, responsible, and flexible
- Access to a car to travel to various sites in the greater Nashville area
- Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as act independently as needed
- Interest in biology, wildlife, environmental policy, and education is a plus
- Experience in environmental education, outreach, volunteer management, event planning, social media management, and more
- Experience working in an outdoor setting and in a nonprofit work environment
- Gain a network of nonprofit and environmental professionals – including policy experts, watershed scientists, community organizers, communications, and development staff
