Job Summary and Qualifications
The Emergency Room Float Pool Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. The RN utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice, maintains a safe therapeutic environment, and identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. This role also plans individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, participates in performance improvement activities, provides care, and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.
When acting in the charge nurse role, RNs are responsible for day‑to‑day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment. RNs make staff assignments based on patient need, acuity, and staff skill, serve as role models and clinical resources, and respond promptly to requests for information or follow‑up with physicians, staff, or patients.
What You Will Do- Assess plans and evaluate the patient's care needs, carrying out physician orders.
- Administer prescribed medications, change dressings, clean wounds, and monitor vital signs.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
- Instruct and educate patients and families as part of a multidisciplinary care‑planning team.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (required).
- Current license as an RN with the Tennessee Board of Nursing or a compact state (required).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire (required).
- At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience in an emergency room (required).
