TDOT Plant Inspector

HMB Professional Engineers is seeking a TDOT Plant Inspector with experience inspecting asphalt production and ensuring compliance with Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) specifications. The role is based in Murfreesboro, TN, within the Construction/CEI department.

• Inspect asphalt plant operations to ensure compliance with TDOT specifications, quality standards, and approved mix designs.
• Perform sampling and testing of hot mix asphalt (HMA), aggregates, and other construction materials in accordance with TDOT procedures.
• Monitor production processes, material proportions, temperatures, and plant operations to verify quality and consistency.
• Review and maintain inspection reports, testing documentation, production records, and daily logs.
• Communicate inspection findings with plant personnel, contractors, TDOT representatives, and project teams.
• Identify material deficiencies or specification deviations and notify appropriate parties to facilitate corrective action.
• Verify calibration and proper operation of plant equipment and testing devices.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality assurance requirements.
• Coordinate with field inspectors and project staff to support successful project delivery.
• Maintain accurate documentation to support material acceptance and project records.
• Travel to asphalt plants and project sites as required throughout assigned regions.

• High school diploma or equivalent required;
  Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in construction inspection, materials testing, asphalt plant inspection, or related transportation construction work.
• Working knowledge of TDOT specifications, construction materials, and asphalt production processes.
• Experience performing asphalt, aggregate, and construction materials sampling and testing.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, plant personnel, TDOT representatives, and internal project teams.
• Ability to work independently in both plant and outdoor construction environments.
• Maintain the physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, lift testing equipment, and work in varying weather conditions.
• Daily travel and occasional overnight stays may be required depending on project assignments.
• Valid TN Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Successful completion of drug screening and background check.
