Position: Mobile Diesel mechanic II - Variable Shift

Job Title

Mobile Diesel Technician II – DOT Management Level – Individual Contributor

Location

Flexible work option: can work remotely but must live in the specified city, state, or region. Travel: 100% of the time. Shift: Day.

Compensation

Hourly base pay rate: $26.73 to $40.10 per hour. May be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and incentive program.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair vehicle equipment; use test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges; road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to equipment to diagnose malfunctions; generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Provide client service, assess needs, and resolve problems.
  • Prioritize tasks, make effective judgments, and manage own daily schedule.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders using the company iOS device and TRAIT application; upload pictures and complete DOT forms.
  • Work independently, meet productivity standards, and comply with safety, health, and environmental policies (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical, or provide a DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
  • Must maintain a valid DOT medical card with sufficient validity if a physical is not provided.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods, and perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Must have strong communication skills and the ability to use logic and reasoning.
  • Must have a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
Required Certifications (within 18 months)
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • Additional ASE certifications as listed below may be required or preferred.

  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608/609
