Job SummaryThis is a DCS Program Specialist position for the Court Liaisons division of the Statewide Prevention Services Team, currently located in Davidson County.
Background Check RequirementThis position requires a criminal background check. Candidates may be asked to provide information about their criminal history, complete a disclosure form, and submit fingerprint and drug‑screening results.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of professional experience in counseling or case management services, or a related field. Two of those years must involve working with children or juveniles.
Substitution of Education for ExperienceGraduate coursework (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours) in social work, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, human services, or child development may substitute for each year of required experience, up to one year. No substitution is allowed for the required two years of children’s services work.
Necessary Special Qualifications- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must possess a valid driver's license prior to and during employment.
- Must have good moral character, as determined by investigation.
- Must complete a criminal history disclosure form in an approved manner.
- Must have no felony convictions.
- Must agree to release all records involving criminal history to the appointment authority.
- Must supply a fingerprint sample as prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint‑based criminal history check.
- Must submit to and pass a pre‑employment screening test for illegal drug use.
The Statewide Court Liaison program is designed to streamline communication and coordinate efforts between the court system, children and families, communities, and the Department of Children's Services. Court Liaisons build relationships with stakeholders, divert youth from custody, develop goal‑oriented prevention plans, connect families to services, and apply knowledge of Departmental Policy and State Statutes.
Responsibilities- Attend court sessions and represent DCS as directed.
- Prepare court dockets, packets, and notifications.
- Engage with judges, magistrates, attorneys, court personnel, community partners, children, families, and DCS personnel.
- Participate in Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM).
- Connect children and families to resources and services to divert youth from custody.
- Assess and complete orders of reference (family home studies, non‑CPS).
- Enter custodial and non‑custodial intakes into the DCS electronic database (FSS, FCIP, Probation, etc.).
- Track prevention efforts and tasks on spreadsheets.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as designated by specific location.
