TRUCK DRIVER

Essential Functions

The Truck Driver is responsible for the following essential functions:

• Operate motor equipment in the performance of various tasks to include loosening, raking and shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
• Remove trees, bushes, shrubs, stumps, rocks, and other items using various types of equipment.
• Drive truck to collect litter as required.
• Spread seed and straw to maintain grass on County property.
• Clean and service truck as necessary.
• Repair driveway easements, patch potholes, build curbs, and otherwise maintain or repair County roads and other structures.
• Assist in the installation of spreader boxes and snowplows on dump trucks.
• Spread salt and sand on icy pavements to prepare County roads for travel during inclement weather.
• Install driveway approaches.
• Operate single axle or tandem dump truck with sporadic hauling of equipment and materials.
• Assist in inspecting roads to determine need for repair work.
• Remove leaves, trash and other items to maintain a neat, clean environment.
• Clean culverts, bridges, and other surfaces as necessary.
• Direct traffic around job sites as required.

• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
• Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
• Perform other duties as required

• High School Diploma, or GED; with six (6) months experience in truck driving, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

• Ability to focus and demonstrate great attention to detail
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
• Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and maintain written records
• Thorough understanding of safe highway practices and motor vehicle regulations

• This position requires the ability to engage in occasional moderate physical activity.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to sit, kneel, squat, stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses and ear plugs.
• Exposure to vehicles traveling at high speeds
• Ability to work and drive in a variety of weather conditions
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
