Job Opportunity - Accounting Clerk
Salary: $22.53 – $24.75/hour
Overtime:
Nonexempt

Under general supervision, organizes and directs information pertaining to the finance department; performs related duties as required. Position works with a team of accounting clerks with a majority of the job duties falling within the category of accounts receivable. Cross‑training in other categories is required.
- Reconcile, record, and post daily, monthly, and quarterly cash receipts related to general funds. These may include but are not limited to ABC, in lieu of tax payments, transient room tax, insurance premium tax, E911 and occupational license tax.
- Oversee the occupational tax process to post returns timely, process annual reconciliations and follow up with customers as needed.
- Process fire inspection invoices including auditing customer for business license and occupational tax compliance.
- Post central garage billings monthly distributing to departments timely.
- Reconcile rental and fuel card billings to ensure timely payments and departmental charges.
- Submit transient room tax disbursements to accounts payable.
- Prepare and post journal entries as needed for general fund cash receipts.
- Responsible for insurance processes including maintaining accurate asset listing as well as processing checks and invoices related to claims and premiums.
- Track and monitor general fund projects in Excel or other formats as assigned.
- Process monthly accounts payable invoices serving as backup as needed.
- Serve as backup in payroll as needed.
- Assist other office personnel as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration – required (work experience may substitute for education).
- Two years related work experience - required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of accounting practices, methods, techniques, principles.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and administrative regulations plus city policies and procedures related to accounting.
- Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and related software programs.
Abilities:
- Ability to stay organized, work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Ability to research and provide relevant feedback/ideas/think innovatively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with city officials, employees and the general public.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, co‑workers, and supervision.
Physical Requirements of the Job:
Work is typically performed indoors and involves sitting at a desk or table; work requires intermittent standing, walking, stooping; bending; reaching, gripping, grasping; must lift objects up to 25 pounds; may be exposed to environmental elements in the collection and processing of information.
Availability:
This is an in‑office position. Candidate must be available for overtime as needed.
