Job DescriptionQualifications:
Job Goal:
Provide real-time, professional-level instructional support to District staff by working directly in classrooms to help teachers and para educators meet students' individual needs. The position provides specialized support related to student behavior, disability-related needs, classroom strategies, and instructional access while building staff capacity to independently support students.
General Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
- Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school’s genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
- Seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
- Work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
- Carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
- React positively to directives.
- Have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals, and staff.
- Maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student’s educational record.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Follow the procurement guidelines and purchase order process.
- Adhere with federal, state and district program guidelines, policies, procedures and laws.
Specific Duties and Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom-based technical assistance and support to teachers and para educators across Elementary, Middle, High School, and Preschool.
- Work directly with para educators to develop the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to meet the individual needs of students they support, in coordination with the classroom teacher.
- Provide behavioral support and assist staff in understanding the function of student behaviors that interfere with learning.
- Partner with teachers to develop practical classroom plans and strategies to address student behaviors and improve student engagement and access to instruction.
- Model effective instructional, behavioral, communication, de-escalation, and classroom-support strategies.
- Collaborate with related service providers to implement strategies and supports within the classroom setting.
- Assist teachers and para educators in supporting students with autism, ADHD, multiple disabilities, developmental disabilities, behavioral needs, and other complex needs.
- Develop and maintain written strategies and support plans for students with significant needs whose behaviors substantially impede learning or classroom functioning.
- Maintain a confidential working folder/documentation system for identified students requiring intensive or ongoing support.
- Provide follow-up coaching to determine whether strategies are being implemented effectively and are improving student outcomes.
