Retail Associate/ Customer Service, Customer Service Rep, Retail Support

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives and performing assigned tasks, while providing legendary customer service.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAs a Team Member, you must be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, and be able to fulfill the following duties (minimum 5% of time):
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts and have ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime as required.
- Take the initiative to support selling initiatives (TEAM):
- Thank the customer
- Engage with the customer and/or pet
- Advise products or services
- Make it memorable
- Perform a combination of the following duties during 95% of your day (duties may vary):
- Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures.
- Handle recovery of merchandise.
- Participate in mandatory freight process.
- Complete plan‑o‑gram procedures (merchandising, sets, and resets).
- Assemble merchandise.
- Perform janitorial duties.
- Execute price changes/markdowns.
- Assist customers with loading purchases.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of live animals; sanitize and maintain holding tanks and care for live animals as required.
- Complete all documentation associated with any of the above.
- Team members may also be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience:
No experience required. Retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge strongly preferred. - Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Must be able to read, write and count accurately.
- Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict.
- Environment generally indoors with moderate noise; floors may be concrete, asphalt, etc. Lighting and temperature adequate.
- Shifts vary, minimum 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment for team members and customers and adhere to company safety training and guidelines.
- Non-sedentary position; requires physical and mental stamina to move throughout store and outdoor areas quickly and safely.
- Operate all equipment related to job duties efficiently and accurately.
- Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
- Frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
- Move throughout store for an entire shift.
- Access all areas of store including selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
- Operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other equipment.
- Read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
- Utilize written and verbal communication to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Process information/merchandise through point-of-sale system.
- Move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise up to 50 pounds.
- Successfully complete required training and certification.
