Building Trades

Maintain, repair and make improvements to facilities as instructed.

• Maintaining good state of repair of campus facilities, qualify of work performed, proper care and maintenance of assigned tools and supplies.
• Thorough knowledge of safe working conditions.
• Maintains, repairs and installs walls, ceilings, doors, door hardware, cabinetry, glass, furnishings and various other work required in the upkeep of all facilities. Skills include carpentry, glass, brick, concrete, windows, door hardware, and signs.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Two years of experience in the maintenance field, with both knowledge of and time working in at least one of the following skilled trades:
  Building Trades, Plumbing, HVAC/Mechanical, Electrical, or Central Plant operations.
• Vocational training may be exchanged for a portion of experience at a rate of one-half times per year.
• Should be able to read blueprints.
• Ability to follow written and verbal communication, work independently, good communication skills, ability to plan and make decisions.
• Thorough knowledge of safe working procedures.
• Building Trades, Plumbing, HVAC/Mechanical, or Electrical.
• Must possess a valid driver license and meet the requirements to operate a University vehicle.

• Applicable certification or licensure for specific trade craft is preferred.

• Eight hours a day, five days a week; occasional overtime.
• Emergency call backs after normal working hours and on weekends may be required.
• Central Plant:
  Involves night and weekend work and may require overtime when needed. Will be required to work holidays when needed.
• This position will be required to work to provided critical services during University holidays, closures, and other emergencies, as needed. Critical services refer to the units that ensure the continuation of key operations and services that directly relate to the security, safety, and/or physical operation of the University (including services to students). Critical services employees will be required to report to work unless their supervisor advises otherwise.

• Must be able to access and work in all work areas including, but not limited to, roofs, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, on scaffolding, climbing ladders, on lift units, etc.
• Lifting and moving heavy objects, contact with potentially biohazardous materials, working in extremely hot or cold weather.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
