The mid‑level civil engineer role is a key position that will be based in Utah and report into the US West Region Transit/Rail Engineering Group. This person will have the opportunity to work on a diverse set of exciting transit projects with the transit/rail group with a focus on supporting the regional Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) design team.
Job Responsibilities- Serve as a designer and/or technical task leader on planning studies, preliminary design studies, and final design of BRT or LRT projects, coordinating and collaborating with team members and supporting business development.
- Perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment supporting a senior engineer.
- Prepare engineering‑related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids for BRT and LRT infrastructure.
- Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
- Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
- Coordinate tasks and provide leadership and mentorship to entry‑level engineers.
- Perform work in accordance with the agreed‑upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Work independently and with other team members to complete all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineering license in Utah (or ability to obtain).
- 4 years of relevant experience in transportation design, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D or Microstation/Power InRoads or Power Geo Pak.
- Ability to prepare engineering design reports and construction drawings for highway, roadway, transit, and/or rail.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate with design teams consisting of multi‑discipline design engineers and technicians.
- Familiarity with BRT/LRT standards and best practices.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Travel may be required for this position.
