Job Description

A Medical Assistant performs routine clerical and clinical tasks within the clinic, assisting Physicians and other licensed providers to provide quality patient care efficiently and cost effectively.

40 hours per week, Full Time. Clinic hours are Monday – Friday 8:15 am – 4:45 pm.

Schmidt Chest Clinic – Pulmonary Division, Intermountain Medical Center, Intermountain Health, Murray, Utah.

• Providing Patient Care:
  Under the direction of the Clinician, assist the provider to gather information relevant to the patient’s visit and condition.

  Communicate clearly with patients through telephone and in‑person interactions.

  Work with cross‑functional teams to collaborate on patient care; attention to detail and follow‑through are key.
• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication and quick, accurate understanding of spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation, information access, and medication preparation.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

• Proof of completion of a Medical Assistant program, at least one year of Medical Assistant work experience, or a current active RN/LPN license to practice nursing in Utah.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers, obtained prior to start date.
• Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
• Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
• Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
• Utah only:
  If certified with less than one year of MA experience, may attend a yearlong MA residency program.

• Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
• Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
• Current national MA certification from one of the following:
  Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA.
