Job Overview
The Ultrasound Tech provides excellent customer service by performing ultrasound examinations under the direction of a physician for identification of abnormalities leading to patient diagnosis.

- Maintains American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and modality‑specific competency in all clinical and technical functions.
- Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
- Performs exams per department protocol and reviews images for quality, clarity, and accuracy.
- Completes studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality.
- Assists and instructs students and other Radiology Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment.
- Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns.
- Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.
- Understands and operates equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images.
- Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions.
- Follows protocols for medical necessity, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures.
- Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – Successful completion of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular).
- Health Services BCLS – Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers).
- Preferred: 1 or more years of experience.
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Requires frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
- Frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment; typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment; includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
- Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.); may be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
