Role Overview:
The Therapist will provide therapeutic support for clients with mental health, behavioral health and substance abuse issues. All Therapy Services must be conducted in the office or at one of our support/crisis center locations (teletherapy to be done in office). Our focus is on the promotion of recovery, symptom reduction, increasing coping skills, and the achievement of the highest level of social functioning.
Responsibilities- Conduct assessments and evaluations, including comprehensive psychological assessments and use of assessment tools to diagnose disorders and develop treatment plans.
- Provide evidence-based individual therapy sessions tailored to each client’s needs.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions to build coping skills and promote interpersonal growth.
- Collaborate with clients to create personalized treatment plans and regularly review and adjust plans based on progress.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting interactions, treatment plans, progress notes, and ensuring confidentiality.
- Respond to clients in crisis with immediate therapeutic intervention, providing ongoing support and resources to manage crises.
Knowledge:
- Methods and techniques of interactive treatment/therapy for patients with mental health concerns.
- Clinical documentation requirements.
- State and community resources for patients with mental health conditions, current concepts, theories, and terminology in diagnosis and treatment.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and excellent verbal and written communication.
- Evaluation of family dynamics, social influences, and interpersonal relationships.
- Interaction with clients and families in therapeutic intervention and interviews.
Abilities:
- Provide counseling interventions that build on individual and family strengths, addressing ongoing mental health needs and improving coping skills.
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments and treatment plans.
- Assess risk, safety, and crisis situations, develop safety plans.
- Engage with diverse populations with cultural humility.
- Interface and collaborate with other departments to achieve common goals.
What you’ll need to start:
- Experience providing on‑call crisis services (highly beneficial).
- A master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- State licensure as a mental health professional (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist).
What will make you stand out:
- Additional certifications in crisis intervention, drug and alcohol counseling, or trauma‑informed care.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, family systems theory, trauma‑informed care.
- Experience in evidence‑based practices such as Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma‑Focused CBT (TFCBT), or similar.
- Experience coordinating care across multiple systems (behavioral health providers, schools, child welfare agencies, juvenile justice programs, primary care providers, community-based organizations).
- Experience with case conceptualization and intervention strategies for children, adolescents, adults.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health counseling or crisis intervention preferred.
- Must live in Utah County (majority of work performed community‑based).
