Job Description:
The Respiratory Therapist RRT provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients, diagnosing, evaluating, treating, and managing cardiopulmonary system deficiencies or abnormalities within the prescribing physician’s plan. The RRT acts as a resource to the Certified Respiratory Therapist staff, may lead special clinical projects, and supports departmental needs.
- Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol.
- Obtains arterial gases.
- Oversees and troubleshoots equipment operation for optimal patient care.
- Initiates Respiratory Protocols according to department criteria.
- Initiates interventions based on assessment interpretation.
- Administers medications safely and in a timely manner.
- Evaluates effects and re-evaluates appropriately per protocol.
- Communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Makes recommendations for patient care and educational needs.
- Teaches patients and families self‑care techniques and modalities.
- Completes documentation according to departmental standards and accuracy of productivity information.
- Monitors supplies and equipment; notifies when supplies are low, out on loan or broken.
- Utilizes time effectively to achieve productivity standards, especially during low census.
- Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifies improvement opportunities, and acts to mitigate safety hazards.
- Participates in departmental meetings, offering ideas and feedback.
- Promotes the profession of Respiratory Care, serving as a consultant and mentor within the department and patient care areas.
- Engages in quality improvement and research activities with the Respiratory Care Team.
- May be required to float to other departments within scope and qualifications based on business need.
- May be required to be on‑call during scheduled shifts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of a National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) approved Respiratory Therapist program.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with current state license.
- Full certification with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers required.
- Required certifications such as PALS, ACLS, NRP as applicable.
- Ability to read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitoring equipment and manipulate complex apparatus.
- Strong verbal communication skills for interaction with patient care providers, patients, and visitors.
- Manual dexterity for handling equipment and supplies, including computer use and medication preparation.
- Physical capability to lift, transfer, bend, carry, push/pull gurneys, and navigate busy clinical environments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and manage stress during emergency situations.
Position:
Full‑time, 36 hours per week, night shifts.
Location:
Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah.
Hourly pay: $32.34 – $49.94, dependent on experience.
