Hyperbaric Technician

Job Overview

This position provides direct patient care before, during, and after hyperbaric treatments. The role performs varied tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional, assisting with hyperbaric patient needs. Under the direction and delegation of a licensed professional, the candidate assists the patient care team to ensure safe and quality care is given. The candidate operates the hyperbaric chamber according to training and established protocols for the following age groups: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric.

• Foster a safe environment by complying with safety policies, taking appropriate action in emergencies, and removing hazardous materials/equipment from the chamber before pressurization.
• Perform routine cleaning of the hyperbaric chamber and ancillary equipment to prevent infection transmission.
• Perform maintenance to the level of training and departmental policy.
• Prepare patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, eliminating or controlling physical and patient-related risk factors before and during treatment.
• Set up and operate all ancillary equipment related to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, including blood glucose testing and blood pressure monitoring.
• Calculate nitrogen time, oxygen breathing obligations, required decompression stops, and repetitive dive profiles as needed.
• Monitor chamber environment variables such as temperature and oxygen, and maintain communication with the inside attendant for pressurization, ventilation, times, air breaks, and chamber movement.

• Current certificate or license in Medical Assistant, Diver Medical Tech, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or LPN.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Meets medical requirements for hyperbaric exposure if applicable.
• Completion of a UHMS or ACHM approved course in Hyperbaric Medicine is preferred.
• One year of wound care or hyperbaric experience.
• Experience in an acute hospital setting.

• Ability to read information, labels, and assess patient needs.
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment.
• Regular computer use and typing for documenting care and accessing information.
• Capacity to lift, bend, carry and push/pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
• Ability to navigate crowded, busy rooms with equipment and power cords on the floor.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.

Full-time, 36 hours per week. Four 9‑hour shifts each week, Monday through Friday, 0700 to 1700. In addition, team members are typically assigned approximately three after‑hours on‑call shifts per pay period to support evening, night, and weekend coverage.

Location:

Intermountain Health Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah.
Regular hourly rate: $24.30 – $37.52 (actual rate depends on experience).
