Job Description

A Medical Assistant is responsible for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting, addressing both acute and chronic needs. The role includes communicating clearly with patients through telephone and in‑person interactions, and assisting clinicians in gathering patient information during visits.

Shift Details

40 hours per week, Full Time. Clinic hours are Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. The schedule may consist of either four 10‑hour shifts (7:30 am – 6:00 pm) or five 8‑hour shifts (7:30 am – 4:00 pm).

Intermountain Medical Center – Heart Institute, 2020 Walnut Street, Murray, Utah.

Role
  • Provide Patient Care:
    Assist the clinician by gathering information relevant to the patient’s visit and condition.
  • Effective Communication:
    Communicate clearly with patients via telephone and in‑person interactions.
  • Team

    Collaboration:

    Work with cross‑functional teams to coordinate patient care, paying close attention to detail and follow‑through.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, or at least one year of Medical Assistant work experience, or a current RN/LPN license in good standing in Utah.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) obtained prior to the start date.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing and data entry.
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with patients and colleagues to provide high‑quality care.
  • Ability to protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality of PHI.
  • Utah only:
    If certified with less than one year of MA experience, the candidate may attend a yearlong MA residency program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
  • Computer literacy, including use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Current national MA certification such as RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or CMA.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to see, read, and assess patient needs; operate monitors and identify equipment.
  • Frequent verbal communication with patients, providers, and visitors, especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate delicate equipment and perform frequent computer use and typing.
  • Capability to lift, transfer, and move patients and supplies, including items of varying weights.
  • Ability to walk, assist with ambulating patients, and handle gurneys and portable equipment.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • For roles requiring driving, ability to operate a vehicle safely.
