Job Description

This role applies to the Athletic Trainer, in the community, youth or high school setting, with primary assignment to support the medical needs of the assigned partner; provide medical coverage on field and in the training room for injured athletes during practices and events. Duties may extend to assisting other local high schools, community sporting events, and regional sporting camps or activities.

The position has variable working hours, unpredictable schedules, and may require adjusting hours to meet partner needs, including late nights.

Essential Functions
  • Carry out rehabilitation programs after athlete or patient evaluation and treatment plan establishment collaboratively with other medical team members.
  • Assess and administer first‑aid to injured athletes during practices and sporting events, making appropriate physician referral when needed.
  • Oversee the operation of the Athletic Training room, ensuring adequate supplies, maximal coverage, and a clean, safe, professional environment.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches, school administration, parents, athletes, physicians, therapists, and other sports medicine team members.
  • Maintain accurate records of all evaluations, referrals, and treatments administered.
  • Provide education and training on injury prevention, health literacy, nutrition, and mental health well‑being.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders at the assigned school or clinic, including physicians, athletic directors, school administration, faculty, coaching staff, boosters, and parents.
  • Ensure that proper return‑to‑play criteria are met before allowing participation, prioritizing the athlete or patient’s best interest.
  • Organize and present in‑services, lectures, coaching conferences, seasonal physicals, sports camps, training, and educational opportunities as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Athletic Training licensure for the state(s) in which you work.
  • Credentialed as an Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years’ experience working in a school or community setting as an Athletic Trainer.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication and hearing of spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation, medication preparation, and information access.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, and to bend, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for an extended period.
