Job Description
The Health and Human Performance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that optimize human performance, reduce error, and enhance safety across all aspects of Intermountain Flight and Ambulance Services. This role ensures that staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources to manage fatigue, stress, workload, and other human factors that impact safety and operational excellence. The Health and Human Performance Manager additionally supports the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of air medical transport professionals, including flight nurses, paramedics, pilots, and communication specialists.
This role is essential in promoting a culture of safety, resilience, and wellness in a high-acuity, high-stress environment. The manager will design and lead programs that address fatigue, stress, fitness, and mental health, ensuring alignment with aviation safety standards and clinical best practices.
- Develops, implements, and updates comprehensive human factors and health performance programs for clinical, aviation, and support staff, ensuring alignment with FAA, CAMTS, OSHA, and organizational requirements. Leads initiatives on fatigue risk management, stress reduction, workload management, ergonomics, and resilience training.
- Conducts needs assessments to identify gaps in human performance and recommend targeted interventions. Analyzes incident and safety data to identify trends related to human factors and develop mitigation strategies. Integrates lessons learned from audits, investigations, and safety reports into human factors and health performance programs.
- Participates in safety and quality investigations, providing human factors expertise and recommendations. Collaborates with Safety Training Coordinator to develop and deliver initial and recurrent training on human factors, crew resource management (CRM), JUST culture, error prevention strategies, and other health and human performance related issues.
- Develops and presents human factors and health performance data and trends to leadership and safety committees. Supports the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) and SMS by integrating lessons learned from audits, investigations, and safety reports into programs.
- Ensure compliance with CAMTS standards, OSHA regulations, and other relevant health and safety guidelines.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive health and wellness programs that support the physical, mental, and emotional health of clinical and operational staff, including flight crews, ground transport teams, dispatchers, and support personnel. Collaborates with stakeholders to integrate wellness strategies into organizational policies and practices.
- Develops and maintains resources for stress management, fatigue mitigation, mental health support, and physical fitness. Serves as a confidential resource for staff seeking wellness support. Coordinates peer support programs, employee assistance programs (EAP), and critical incident stress management (CISM) services.
- Facilitates wellness workshops, training sessions, and health screenings. Monitors wellness program effectiveness through data collection, surveys, and feedback. Prepares reports and presentations for leadership on wellness trends, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Partners with safety team and internal and external partners to align wellness efforts with safety goals. Advocates for employee health needs in organizational planning and decision-making. Promotes a culture of safety ownership, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
- Stays current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging risks related to human factors and health performance in medical transport. Stays current on industry best practices and emerging wellness trends in healthcare and emergency services.
