Description Claims Subrogation Specialist

Location: Murray, Utah

Work Arrangement: In-Office

Job Type: Full Time

About the Role

We're looking for a Claims Subrogation Specialist to join Bear River Mutual Insurance. As a Claims Subrogation Specialist, you'll support our claims department by investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving first- and third-party subrogation claims. You'll help pursue recoveries, control costs, and support timely, accurate claim outcomes for our policyholders and business partners.

You'll manage an active caseload involving auto and homeowners claims, evaluate recovery opportunities, communicate with insureds, vendors, counsel, and other insurance carriers, and maintain thorough documentation throughout the claim process.

This role is a strong entry point for someone looking to begin a career in claims, while also offering meaningful opportunities for experienced candidates. More experienced applicants may have opportunities to file, respond to, and hear inter‑company arbitrations, as well as collaborate with inside and outside counsel to pursue subrogation through legal means.

This position is based in Murray, Utah. At Bear River Mutual, we value in‑person collaboration and believe some of our best work happens when we are working together, building relationships, and learning from one another.

What You'll Be Responsible For
  • Identify, evaluate, and interpret subrogation potential using sound judgment and claims knowledge.
  • Manage subrogation and arbitration for personal auto property damage claims, including coverage verification, liability assessment, demand preparation, negotiation, and recovery activities.
  • Collaborate with customers, insurance carriers, vendors, counsel, and internal teams to resolve multi-party property damage claims.
  • Coordinate with frontline claims staff and leadership to support smooth handoffs, timely responses, and reduced arbitration or litigation risk.
  • Pursue recovery from tort carriers, arbitrate when necessary, and maintain thorough documentation, detailed file notes, and supporting evidence.
  • Track key performance indicators, including cycle time, recovery rate, and reserve accuracy, and communicate status updates, risks, and next steps to stakeholders.
  • Initiate outbound and respond to inbound communications with insureds, vendors, counsel, and other insurance carriers.
  • Print, prepare, and mail official correspondence related to recovery efforts.
  • File new claim reports received through inbound demands for claims that have not yet been reported.
  • Assist the total loss department with administrative paperwork and telephone communications.
  • Contribute to special projects and other tasks as assigned.

  • Support effective claim recoveries while helping control costs for the organization.
  • Manage multiple claims, tasks, communications, and deadlines with accuracy and follow-through.
  • Use critical thinking and sound judgment to evaluate facts, liability, coverage, and recovery opportunities.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with policyholders, carriers, vendors, counsel, and internal team members.
  • Build strong working relationships across the claims department and with external business partners.
  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation that supports timely and effective claim resolution.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
