Job Description
Coordinates and delivers both interpretation (oral) and translation (written) services for individuals with limited English proficiency across all Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services.

Schedule and ShiftThe schedule for this position is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 6 PM-6:30 AM. Three 12‑hour shifts per week.
Essential Functions- Interpret medical and general information with the highest accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes for patients, families, and Intermountain Health staff, using appropriate communication methods according to individuals’ developmental age and mental condition.
- Interpret complex medical information, demonstrating expert knowledge of medical terminology and the healthcare system.
- Act as a cultural mediator, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and superior intercultural communication skills. Render unbiased interpretation to ensure accurate exchange of information in the proper cultural context.
- Adhere to the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters, demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
- Manage time productively, displaying a proactive approach to the job. Respond to requests in a timely manner and provide staff with an estimated time of arrival for assignments. Refer staff to phone or video interpretation per guidelines.
- Use computer, software, and electronic tools for research, data entry, and other communication purposes within the work environment. Maintain accurate and complete records of all interpretation events. Ensure data across multiple platforms or sources is consistent and accurate.

- Pay Range: $22.98 - $35.00. Pay is determined based on direct professional interpreting experience.

- Successful completion of a pre‑hire skills assessment.
- Excellent oral and written command of both source and target language(s) at “Professional Proficiency” or Level 3 on the ILR scale (or equivalent as approved by Manager), including specialized healthcare terminology.
- Perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation with a high degree of accuracy in both languages.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi‑task.
- Demonstrated interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to function as part of a team and the flexibility and good judgment to work independently.
- Certificate of completion from a 40‑hour Professional Medical Interpreter course.
For candidates who do not meet the Professional Medical Interpreter course requirement, you may be considered if you meet one of the following qualifications (if hired, you will need to complete the 40‑hr course on your own within six months):
- Hold an interpreting certification in a different field (e.g., court)
- Hold a college degree in translation or working language
- Have 2 years of experience as a professional interpreter
