The Welder is responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling metal components used in scenic elements, décor, furniture, and custom builds for events and productions. This role requires strong welding skills, the ability to interpret fabrication drawings, and the capability to execute projects from start to finish. The Welder plays a key role in the daily workflow of the Fabrication Shop and supports on‑site installations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and flux‑core welding on steel, aluminum, and other metals as required.
  • Cut, grind, shape, and prepare metal components using saws, grinders, plasma cutters, and other fabrication tools.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication plans.
  • Fit, assemble, and weld metal structures and frames according to specifications.
  • Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and structural integrity.
  • Operate standard shop tools including welders, grinders, drill presses, sanders, and various hand and power tools.
  • Assist with carpentry or mixed‑material fabrication when required for hybrid builds.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in safe working condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including adherence to PPE and safety protocols.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials for fabrication projects.
  • Perform on‑site installation of event décor including scenic elements, metal structures, custom frames, and other fabricated pieces.
  • Drive company vehicles, including vans, SUVs, and box trucks up to 26’, and haul trailers up to 16’.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for shop processes, build quality, and production efficiency.
  • Stay current with evolving welding techniques, fabrication tools, and job‑specific software.
  • Uphold and promote all company policies and procedures.

No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications Education/Experience
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or
  • Six months to one year of welding or metal fabrication experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, welding procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and basic documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to calculate measurements, angles, proportions, and material requirements.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry to fabrication tasks.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical fabrication problems and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Ability to interpret written, verbal, diagram, or schedule‑based instructions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Welding certifications preferred but not required.
  • Company may support certification after hire.
