Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The Clinic RN utilizes the nursing process with technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members in an outpatient clinic setting. Clinic RNs are pivotal members of the care delivery team headed by the physician and have specialized knowledge, skills and ability pertinent to ambulatory care patient needs.

Scope of performance includes prioritization and triage of care delivery, implementing established standing orders and protocols, performing procedures and therapies consistent with training and licensure.

Responsibilities
  • Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social and psychological status (including cognitive, communicative and developmental skills as appropriate).
  • Seek and evaluate information acquired from other members of interdisciplinary team: patient, family, physician, non-nursing disciplines, support staff, others.
  • Use assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop individualized plan of care.
  • Actively seek patient, family, team, and physician involvement to develop plan of care including needed education.
  • Collaboratively plan and prepare patients for further support needs once the current episode of care outcomes are met.
  • Direct the interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination and collaboration as appropriate.
  • Provide or delegate care consistent with plan of care, guidelines of care and professional licensure provisions.
  • Demonstrate ability to set priorities and coordinate and organize patient care delivery through effective time, supplies and resource management.
  • Evaluate patient response to interventions through review of achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction.
  • Revise plan of care as indicated, and reassess changes as appropriate.
  • Promote nursing profession and participate in development of others.
  • Integrate legal and ethical standards into practice: comply with regulatory standards, practice within scope of licensure, provide accurate and timely documentation, and understand legal implications of care delivery.
Physical Demands

Employee must see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies; respond quickly and accurately, especially during emergency situations. Requires manual dexterity, frequent computer use and typing, lifting and moving patients and supplies of varying weights, transporting and ambulating patients, and standing for extended periods.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Practice-specific certification as required by the clinical setting (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN must obtain their BSN within four years of their start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
