Job Summary
The Nursing Graduate works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates in patient care delivery, medication administration, and patient data collection. The role lasts up to 12 weeks while employees are in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program, with the goal of obtaining RN licensure. After the 12‑week period, or if the exam is not passed twice, the employee cannot remain in this position.
Employees may then apply for other open positions they qualify for.
- Demonstrates understanding of the nursing process and development and revision of the patient plan of care under RN supervision.
- Collects patient data (e.g., vital signs) under RN supervision, reports significant changes in patient condition, and completes accurate documentation.
- Observes and discusses with the RN the prioritization of patient needs among all assigned patients during a shift and observes the creation and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Observes implementation of the patient plan, considering the patient’s physical, emotional, social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other factors.
- Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the RN regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions.
- Participates in patient/family education needs under RN supervision, based on assessments, diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient/family requests.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within the defined role; routinely discusses all aspects of care with the RN.
- Recognizes legal/ethical implications of care delivery, complies with regulatory standards, completes accurate documentation, and maintains confidentiality.
- Achieves RN licensure in a timely manner, completes orientation and training, and successfully progresses through and completes the Nursing Residency program.
- Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Must have less than 1 year of RN experience.
- Read and interpret information, labels, and patient needs; identify equipment and supplies.
- Communicate verbally and understand spoken information during emergency situations.
- Manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision.
- Use a computer for documentation, medication preparation, and information accessing.
- Lift and transfer patients and heavy supplies; bend, push, and pull gurneys and portable equipment.
- Stand in one position for extended periods.
