Job Description
The Nursing Graduate works under the direct line‑of‑sight supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in a clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent orients to the RN’s assignment, excluding independent nursing care, and may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN.
This position may be utilized for up to 12 weeks while employees are in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and are working toward preparing, testing, and passing the State Boards examination to obtain an RN license. After that 12‑week period, or if the Nursing Graduate fails the State Board exam a second time, the employee can no longer remain in the Nurse Graduate job.
Employees can apply for any open jobs they qualify for, including jobs requiring a certification they currently hold (e.g., CNA). Failure to pass boards or to be hired into another job will result in termination.
- Assessment: Collects patient data (e.g., vital signs) under RN supervision and reports significant changes in patient condition.
- Planning: Observes and discusses with the RN the prioritization of patient needs among all patients assigned during a shift and observes the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Implementation: Observes the implementation of the patient care plan, considering specialized needs such as physical, emotional, social, age, and ethnic origin.
- Evaluation: Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the RN regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions.
- Participates in patient/family education needs under RN supervision, as determined by assessments and patient readiness.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within the defined role and routinely discusses all aspects of care with the RN.
- Recognizes and demonstrates the legal/ethical implications of care delivery by practicing as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, complying with regulatory standards, completing accurate documentation, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Achieves RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and completes orientation and training requirements, including successful progression through the Nursing Residency program.

- Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (verification required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication and rapid comprehension, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity for manipulating complex equipment, frequent computer use, and typing for documentation. Expected to lift and transfer patients, bend to retrieve and carry supplies, push and pull gurneys, and navigate crowded rooms.
For roles requiring driving, expected to drive a vehicle while seated, seeing and reading signs and traffic signals.
Intermountain Health – Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah. Scheduled weekly hours: 36. Hourly range: $32.27 – $32.27 (actual rate dependent upon experience).
