Patient Care Technician – Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as a clinical support partner on the Medical Endocrine unit, assisting the patient care team with a wide range of tasks and procedures under the direction of licensed professionals. Optional duties may include the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator.

Unit Description

The Medical Endocrine unit is a fast‑paced, 32‑bed environment that primarily treats endocrine disorders, including DKA protocols, as well as viral/bacterial infections, electrolyte imbalances, gastroenterology, pulmonary, cardiac, and renal/liver failure. Patients are admitted from the emergency room, ICU transfers, internal facility transfers, and occasionally direct admissions from primary care or clinics.

Shift Details

Full‑time nighttime shift with rotating weekends and some holiday requirements. Shift differentials are provided for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Essential Functions
  • Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, provision of fresh water and ice, ambulation, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care findings and data.
  • Report changes in patient condition promptly and secure qualified assistance as needed.
  • Perform telemetry duties as required and serve as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing care needs, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN and other clinical units.
  • Collaborate with the RN and team members to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assume Health Unit Coordinator duties when necessary, such as answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing supplies, and maintaining unit stock.
  • Implement patient plans of care as delegated and perform specialized procedures within scope of practice, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a safe environment by following safety policies and responding appropriately in emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • For Utah candidates: valid Utah CNA certification, or completion of a recent Utah CNA training program (within the last 1 year) and renewed certification within 120 days of hire.
  • Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course within the last 2 years, with passing grade and official transcript.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior CNA experience or related healthcare experience.
  • Current enrollment in a nursing school program.
Physical Requirements
  • Visual and auditory acuity to identify equipment, read labels, and process audio alerts.
  • Manual dexterity for operating monitors, manipulating delicate equipment, and computer use.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and move patients and supplies up to medium weight, daily also perform pushing/pulling of gurneys and equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain a stationary position as required.
  • Operating a vehicle requires normal vision, hearing, and spatial awareness.
Compensation and Benefits

Scheduled hours: 36 weekly (full‑time night shift). Hourly rate: $18.40 – $23.92, based on experience. Eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, education assistance, and shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends.
