Vaccine/Pack Tech – Murray, UT – Full-Time

POSITION TITLE:
VACCINE/PACK TECH- VACCINATION CLINIC

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:Prepare vaccines for administration to client dogs,catsand rabbits.

Cleans,sterilizesand prepares surgical packs.

Safely and humanely restrains pets for vaccination administration, heartworm tests, microchipplacement,and any other miscellaneous veterinary services provided by the Humane Society of Utah.

Educates clients. Provides excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reads anddetermineswhat vaccines and services are to be performed from printed invoices prepared by reception staff.
  • Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs. With or without assistance.
  • Safely andhumanelyrestrain pets for services and procedures.
  • Prepares vaccinations for administration to client pets. Administer vaccinations after training.
  • Bring pets and owners from the reception lobby to the treatment area.
  • Drawblood for heartworm tests.
  • Assist with client euthanasia.
  • Helps with the check-inprocedurefor surgery animals.
  • Cleans,sterilizes,and prepares surgery packs.
  • Answersclients’questions and instructs on proper pet care and vaccination schedules.
  • Handles all animals in a professional,humane,and safe manner.
  • Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Maybe responsible for ordering lab and vaccine supplies.
  • Receives and properlystores orderedsupplies.
  • Monitors kennels of recovering client animals and cleans up urine,vomit,and feces.
  • Washes and folds all surgery laundry and gowns.
  • Bags andremoveseuthanized pets from rooms. Cleansasstraighten up the room.
  • Keeps lab and work areas clean at all times.
  • Empties and cleans all mop buckets at the end of the day.
  • Sweeps and mops all hallways and lab floors. Cleans as needed and thoroughly at the end of the day.
  • Cleans floor trim edges, doors, and walls of hallways and lab.
  • Make sure pet collars and cage/kennel cards match before releasing pets to their owners.
  • Make sure pets havefittinge-collars and are clean of any messes (urine, vomit, feces) before releasing them to their owners.
  • Releases post-surgery pets to their owners and instructs on after-surgery care.
  • Help the Wellness veterinarian with exams, blood draws, UA, X-rays, fill medications, and any otherassistancethe veterinarian might need.
  • Making sure that all Wellness supplies are stocked and ordered.
  • Tech appointments.
  • Run urine and blood machines and be able to clean andmaintainmachines.
  • Check out clients and give aftercare instructions.
  • Cross-training in multiple departments throughout the organization.
  • Thoroughly cleansexamrooms.
  • Drains and cleans both autoclaves every Wednesday.
  • Deep cleans client kennels weekly.
  • Completes other duties as may be assigned by the lead tech, manager, medical director, or any staff Veterinarian.
  • Completes all weekly cleaning assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Some veterinary technician experience is preferred. Must be available Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Ability to work Monday-Saturday is required.

Occasionally, some overtime may be required. Schedules are subject to change based on department needs.

Must be able to work with dogs, cats,rabbits,and other miscellaneous small pets.

Must be able to understand and strictly follow verbal and written directions from Staff Veterinarians and the Medical Director.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential functions of this job, veterinary techsareregularlyrequiredto lift 50-75lbsrepeatedly throughout thework dayand must be able to safely and properly restrain large and/or fractious animals.

Technicians are regularly required tokneel, bend, twist, stand, and walk forlong periods, and converse with clients to explain procedures and service schedules.

The technicians are required to regularly perform repetitive wrist,handand finger movement.

The veterinary technician is regularly required totalk, feel the attributes of objects, grasp, push, and reach with arms and hands.
