Overview

AECOM is seeking a Mid-level Biologist/Ecologist to join our Natural Resources team within our Environmental Permitting and Planning group. This hybrid opportunity will be based in our Murray, Utah office.

The successful applicant will be responsible for projects that involve biological resources inventories and impact analysis; innovative mitigation and conservation planning; multi-disciplinary teamwork with biologists, planners, landscape architects, and restoration ecologists; and creative integration of natural resource analysis and project design.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assignments requiring interpretation and application of federal, State, and local environmental regulations.
  • Lead wildlife and/or botanical surveys, including vegetation and habitat mapping.
  • Conduct wetland delineations utilizing the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and applicable regional supplements.
  • Conduct stream assessments.
  • Prepare aquatic resources delineation reports.
  • Compile USACE CWA Sec. 404 permits, calculate wetland/stream mitigation requirements and coordinate with Mitigation Bank Sponsors.
  • Preparing and implementing mitigation, restoration, and monitoring plans.
  • Coordinate with USACE Regulatory Staff and cultivate positive relationships.
  • Special-status species permitting (e.g., ESA Section 7 biological assessments).
  • Utilize electronic data collection methods (including GPS), manage, interpret and analyze data, as needed.
  • May support business development efforts.
  • Work under the supervision of a senior project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver.
  • Ensure assigned tasks stay on schedule and budget.
  • Conduct senior review of technical reports prepared by others.
  • Perform other related duties assigned, such as coordination with team members, scheduling of work, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
  • 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/ or education in biological natural resources/project management.
  • Candidates must be available and willing to work out of town as needed.
  • Valid Driver's license required for this role.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • 6+ years of natural resources experience.
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations, writing aquatic resources delineation reports, and conducting Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting.
  • Training in relevant biological disciplines (e.g., wildlife, botany, wetland ecology, fisheries, herpetology, or entomology)
  • Experience as a Project Manager on projects involving construction monitoring, habitat assessments, and wildlife and botanical surveys.
  • Experience in a client-facing role.
  • Good organizational skills and a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Technical biological writing experience and NEPA analysis.
  • Working knowledge of special-status plants and wildlife in Rocky Mountain region and associated state and federal environmental protections.
  • Endangered species survey experience.
  • Experience as a technical reviewer of biological resources reports.
